Blog Post #4 Understanding and Promoting Library Resources

Understanding and Promoting Library Resources

One of the important aspects of understanding (and loving) our libraries is knowing what resources we have, beyond books! This will help you to be a better help to fellow students, and help you understand the role of a library technician on a better scale. If you are interested, you can even help me teach about these for a particular class!

For this assignment, you will need to go to the library catalogue, and then to sd36 digital resources, and click on student resources.

If you need a password, your surreyschools login should work. If not, try username: sd36bc and pw: Surrey@2025.

Part 1: Databases

Select 4 databases from the SD#36 On Line Digital Resources (only 1 encyclopedia).

For each database:
  • give a description of the database and include the icon/image. Use your own words!

  • explain situations where each database could be useful to Fraser Heights students. Be specific; explain what grade (s), subjects, and specific projects or assignments it would help with. Post this information to your blog. To help with this, think about various projects you have done (or would have liked to have done) in your classes.
Specific Assignment:
  • Put together a lesson to help a Science 11 class with a research project they need to do. What databases would you use? Why?
Please organize this information in a visually appealing way.

Part 2: Video/Movie Streaming Databases

Now, select 2 of the video/movie streaming databases.

Give a description of the database and include the icon.

For each database, find a video that would be useful for a Science 10 class and one that would be useful for Social Justice 11. Post them to your blog with the descriptions of the movies and why it would be useful.

Bonus: Find a movie you would love to watch. Summarize the movie and explain to me why you are interested in it! If possible, think of an academic link to the movie-what course would it work in?
